CANCELLED - The First Seminar on Culture, Identity, Body Image and Fashion by Shaikh Saad Tasleem April 27 - 29

The First Seminar on Culture, Identity, Body Image and Fashion

It’s one of the most polarizing trends to hit our communities

The search for Muslim representation in Western mainstream (sports, media, and fashion runways) split us down the middle. While some make dangerous compromises, others mistakenly hold on to a vague notion of “Muslim tradition”.  It’s time we find clarity and the healthy balance on self-expression.

Every day is a new controversy, but the underlying questions are the same.
What are Islamic guidelines on hair and dress?
Is there such a thing as “Muslim culture”?
What does “imitating non-Muslims” really mean?
Does being “trendy” contradict with Islamic concept of modesty?
Am I a bad Muslim for being into fashion?

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda - 3 Day Seminar November 3rd to 5th 2017

FIRM GROUND
FOUNDATIONS FOR CLARIFYING TEXTUAL MISINTERPRETATION
By Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda

When the very things you hold dear are under constant attack, not knowing how to respond is often the precursor to a crisis of faith. This class covers the most commonly misinterpreted source texts in Islam, refutes doubts and develops a methodology to understanding them. There is no beating around the bush here. Discuss matters head on like reasons people leave Islam, attacks on Quran, accusations of gender bias, issues from the Seerah, and the nature of the Islamic penal code.

Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and at the age of 10 began the road to knowledge by moving to Karachi, Pakistan, and memorizing the entire Qur’an in less than one year.

After graduating from high school, he continued his studies abroad at the renowned Jamia Binoria and graduated from its demanding seven year program in 2002 at the top of his class with numerous licenses to teach in various Islamic Sciences. Along with the Alim Course he concurrently completed a B.A. and M.A. in Arabic from Karachi University. He also obtained a Masters in Islamic Studies from the University of Sindh. He taught Arabic at the University of Texas at Arlington from 2005 to 2007. He served as the Imam at the Colleyville Masjid in the Dallas area for three years. He is a founding member and chairman of Mansfield Islamic Center.

He has served as an instructor and curriculum advisor to various Islamic schools and Islamic studies programs including Qalam Seminary for which he is the founder and director. His latest projects include Quran Intensive (a summer program focusing on Arabic grammar and Tafsir), Quranic analysis lectures, Khateeb Training, chronicling of the Prophetic Biography, and personally mentoring and teaching his students at the Qalam Seminary.

His light-hearted nature and southern warmth make him one of the most sought-after speakers on the international scene.
