Reopening The Masjid!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We hope you are doing well and staying safe and healthy. Insha'Allah, Dar Al-Taqwa will be open for all 5 daily prayers starting tomorrow, Monday morning with Fajr prayers. It has been over 14 days since the Masjid has been closed due to our recent COVID-19 exposure. While it was closed, we had a professional sanitizing company come in and sanitize the Masjid so the risk of anyone contracting COVID-19 from our possible exposure 2 weeks ago has been minimized, if not mitigated. We are continuously working on making the Masjid a safe and sanitary place for the community to pray. Please note that the Masjid will only be open for the 5 daily prayers. The prayers will be kept quick to minimize any exposure and all social distancing guidelines will be enforced. All other Masjid programs, such as daily Halaqas, will still be virtual. Please visit our website for a full calendar of our events. Please see below for a full list of guidelines that will be followed.

Lastly, we also wanted to inform everyone that due to the recent rainfall and roofing issues the Masjid has been facing, there have been many leaks in the Masjid which may have resulted in some mold issues. We are currently in the process of getting that tested and verified so we can resolve the problem. The main solution would be replacing the roof, which we are in the process of doing, but in the meantime we are taking every precaution we can to keep the Masjid safe for everyone. We felt it was our responsibility to inform our community of the current issues we are facing while we are working on solving them.

To ensure the safety and security of community members, please see below the guidelines for attendance:

  • A list of attendees will be kept for each Salah. This is to ensure we are able to contact all attendees in case any issues arise

  • All attendees must bring their own prayer rug and must wear masks at all times.

  • We also recommend attendees bring a small bag to place their shoes in to avoid crowding near other attendees.

  • Please make your Wudhu at home. Only the Basement Main Hall will remain open for prayers. The remainder of the Masjid will be closed, including bathrooms and elevators.

  • Sanitizer will be provided at the door. Please sanitize your hands prior to entry.

  • For sanitary reasons, chairs will not be accessible during the prayers so if you need a chair to pray, we recommend praying from home.

  • If you are over the age of 65, feeling sick, or experiencing COVID-19-like symptoms, please stay at home.

  • No children under the age of 13 will be allowed to enter.

  • No sunnah prayers.

  • No socializing.

The safety of the community is our priority. We will be strictly enforcing these rules. Individuals who violate these rules put the entire community at risk resulting in potential outbreaks. We will have to turn those who are non-compliant away in consideration of others. Please be mindful that many of our community members are elders and may have underlying health conditions. So if you are sick please stay home, and if you are an elder and/or have underlying health conditions, we strongly recommend you stay home for your safety. It is important that we all work together to make this a safe space so that we can continue moving forward.

JazakAllah Khair,

The Board of Directors

CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19 EXPOSURE!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It has come to our attention that we have confirmed COVID-19 positive families who have been attending prayers at Dar Al-Taqwa. We also received information that there are families who socialized with these individuals who have also been attending DAT prayers and are awaiting test results.

This news requires immediate and urgent action. Here's what we're doing to keep our community safe:
  1. We are shutting down the property (including the parking lot) and Masjid facility effective immediately for a minimum of 2 weeks. Gates and doors will be locked. We will keep you updated as soon as it is safe to reopen.
  2. We will begin deep cleaning and disinfecting the entire property, and will continue to do so after two weeks, to ensure that once we reopen, we can do so safely.
  3. We will share any pertinent news we receive as we are able to do so.

Due to the immediate closure, tomorrows Jummah prayers are canceled along with Saturdays Hajj Expo. Please join us for our virtual events instead.

If you have attended any prayers at DAT in the last 14 days we strongly recommend self-quarantining. If you start exhibiting COVID-like symptoms seek immediate medical attention through testing and other CDC recommended protocols. Please find a list of testing sites in Howard County here. Always follow the advice of your healthcare professionals. If you have questions or concerns regarding COVID-19 in Howard County, please contact the Howard County Coronavirus Information line at (410) 313-6284.

We pray that Allah gifts us passing this test with patience and contentment. Remember each of us in your community, your brothers and sisters in Islam, in your Arafah and iftar prayers today!

JazakAllah Khair,

The Board of Directors

Eid Announcement!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Eid Mubarak! As you know, at Dar Al-Taqwa we follow global moon sighting. Until a few minutes ago, reports were mixed about the validity of the witness testimony of the moon being sighted. After further examination and extensive research with local scholars and renowned global scholars, there are enough global authentic eyewitnesses whom have sighted the moon. While there remains some conflicts about these moon sightings, the authenticity of the sighting cannot be ignored. Therefore, several local Masjids, including Dar Al-Taqwa, who follow global moon sighting will be celebrating Eid al-Fitr on Saturday May 23rd, 2020 making Friday May 22nd, 2020 the last day of Ramadan!

EID MUBARAK! May Allah accept our fast and our duaa. May Allah forgive us our shortcomings and accept our good deeds and intentions!

Regarding the Eid Celebration Drive Thru, there is rain forecasted all day tomorrow. Therefore, our rain date for the Eid drive-thru celebration will be on Sunday May 24th, 2020 insha'Allah.

We will follow up regarding the Eid al-Fitr Halaqa scheduled for Saturday morning insha'Allah. Please keep an eye out for additional information.

Eid Prayer During COVID-19
Similar to how we spent Ramadan, we will be spending Eid al-Fitr socially distant. This pandemic has brought a situation to the community unlike any other but we pray Allah continues to grant us the patience and perseverance to get through this as quickly and as safely as possible.

Dar Al-Taqwa highly encourages the community to perform the Eid Salah at home. Though you may not feel like celebrating with everything going on in the world, we encourage the community to follow the regular Sunnahs of Eid. Make ghusl, wear good garments, have a light breakfast, recite the takbirat after Fajr, etc.

Ramadan Mubarak!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As we announced earlier this week, Dar Al-Taqwa follows the principle of Wehdat Al-Mata'la, local and Global moon sighting. The moon has been sighted tonight so the first day of Ramadan will be tomorrow, Friday insha'Allah.

"قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا  يَجْمَعُون"
Say, “In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy – in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate” (10:58).

We ask Allah to help us and our brothers and sisters to be from those who will establish prayer and good fasting in this month of Ramadan.

Please click here to listen to the Du'a that the Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to recite at the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

Taraweeh During COVID-19:
This year brings a unique situation where we cannot hold Taraweeh prayers at the Masjid. This creates a strange feeling in all of our hearts as Ramadan is usually a month of community and worship. Despite these circumstances, we should not let this year be any different and we should look at it as an opportunity to spend more time with the family and worship together. We want to encourage our community members to pray Taraweeh from their homes.

Here are a few tips you can do when praying at home:

  1. Dedicate a clean and comfortable space for prayer in your home.
  2. Set a time to pray Isha daily. Give the adhan, iqamah, and pray with those at home with you in congregation. If you live alone or are the only Muslim in your household, still give the adhan and iqamah as you will be leading a noble congregation of Angels.
  3. Recite the adhkar for after prayer and make du'a.
  4. Pray the two emphasized units of sunnah prayer after Isha.
  5. Pray Taraweeh as you would in the Masjid with anywhere from 8-20 rakahs. In these rakahs, you can recite however much Qur'an you know from memory or, if you prefer, you can read from the Mus'haf.
  6. Try your best to engage with whatever portion of the Qur'an you are reciting by reading the translation, commentary (tafsir), and reflecting upon the meanings.
  7. Pray Wit'r
  8. During this time, remove distractions such as your cell phone and other electronic devices.

Ramadan Events and Zoom Recordings:
Insha'Allah, we are planning to have many events during Ramadan. Please check out our calendar here for more updated information. If you missed any of our events, you can watch them at your convenience and find the recording here.

Starting tomorrow, we have Daily Ramadan Reflections beginning 10 minutes before Maghrib. Please keep Iftar time in mind when joining the zoom call. We will also have Daily Tafseer of the Qur'an starting at 9:30pm. The Zoom link can be found on our website calendar using the link above.

Donations and Zakat:
Jazakum Allahu khairun to all those who continually support the masjid, even from home! We are truly blessed to have such an amazing and generous community!
Please continue to support Dar Al-Taqwa through your generous and ongoing donations. These invaluable resources help us maintain the masjid, support local families impacted by this crisis and support our amazing Taqwa care team of staff and scholars! Remember, donating online is not only easy but is an incredible opportunity for sadaqah jaariya, a continuing charity!

During this Ramadan please remember us in your ongoing donations. If you are unable to fast this month and need to pay the Ramadan fidya, you can pay it through DAT and keep the help local! We will disburse funds to local families as soon as they are received inshaAllah. The estimated cost, on guidance from the Fiqh Council of North America, is $10 for each day missed or $300 for all of Ramadan.
May Allah keep us all healthy and safe and deliver us from this test in a higher state of Iman!

COVID-19 Resources

In meantime, we wanted to contribute with a list of things for helping to uplift our community mood, face this crisis with the heads up and without panicking. (This page will be updated as new information becomes pertinent)

    - Fight fear with facts. Stay informed by trusted sources, reliable and verified information and don’t overburden yourself with the unnecessary overload that can lead to further anxiety and confusion. Here are few main sources: The World Health Organization,  and the other are Guidelines, our local Howard County Health Dept., and U.S. CDC  authority.

    - Avoid media intoxication. The sudden and near-constant stream of news reports about an outbreak can cause anyone to feel anxious. Try to avoid watching, reading or listening to news that causes you to feel distressed, particularly several times a day. Seek information mainly to take practical steps to prepare your plans and protect yourself and your loved ones. To do that, you don’t need 24/7 updates. Seek information updates at specific times during the day once or twice. Check back with us for any updates by regularly visiting our Taqwa.net, Facebook page, or DAT Calendar (instructions on how to add to your phone is on our website).

    - Protect yourself and support others. Assisting others in their time of need can benefit the person receiving support as well as yourself.

    - Honor care-takers and healthcare workers supporting people affected with COVID-19 in our community. Acknowledge the role they play to save lives and keep our loved ones safe, no matter where they may be located locally and/or in the world.

    - Find opportunities to amplify positive stories and voices of people, cities, and countries who have experienced the COVID-19 and have recovered or are making progress in that direction.

    - And finally, review and have preparedness plan in place of Implementation of Mitigation Strategies for Communities as mentioned by Center for Disease Control (CDC)

Elders & Seniors:

- Dar al Taqwa Message:
Dar Al-Taqwa would like to reach out to anyone who may need help running errands, whether big or small, such as picking up medicine, needing a ride to the doctor, getting groceries, etc. We would like to reach out to the sick, elderly, single parents, and anyone in our community who could use an extra hand. Please reach out to shura[at]taqwa.net or contact Br. Mumtaz at 410-591-4498 as we have a group of community members ready and willing to help you and your family.

“Faithful believers are to each other as the bricks of a wall, supporting and reinforcing each other. So saying, Prophet Muhammad clasped his hands by interlocking his fingers” (Al-Bukhari).

Interlocking our fingers represent, without breaking apart, how much stronger we can be when we work together. Let us join forces to make this difficult time easier for one another.

Alternatively, you can be a great example of how you can immediately connect with people who would dearly appreciate your help by reaching out to a community member, friend, and/or neighbor.

Neighborly Help
Again, please reach out to shura[at]taqwa.net or Br. Mumtaz at 410-591-4498 if there is anything the community can do to help you and your family.

COVID-19 UPDATE

The Dar Al-Taqwa Board of Directors, as well as our Imams, have been closely monitoring the developments with COVID-19, also known as coronavirus. We have been in contact with local leadership in our government and nearby mosques as we assess the best course of action for our community's health while maintaining our adherence to Islamic jurisprudence.

Considering the health and well-being of our members of the Howard County Muslim community, Dar Al-Taqwa announces that NO congregational Friday prayers (Salat-ul-Jumuah) will be held this week in order to minimize the further outspread of COVID-19.

This is in conjunction with the executive order Governor Larry Hogan has issued earlier today involving gatherings of 250+ people to be postponed or canceled in addition to the County's policy guidance on large events and gatherings. Dar Al-Taqwa has received guidance from our Imams and have had medical discussions regarding this issue and advise all community members to pray Salat-ul-Duhr at home or work tomorrow. According to the principles and guidelines of the Shariʿah, this is a valid reason for one to be excused from attending Jummah Prayer.

Along with this weeks Jummah prayer, all other social, educational and recreational events held at Dar Al-Taqwa will be canceled until further notice from the board.

These events include:

  • Saturday and Sunday School
  • Taqi program
  • Monday Homeschool Group
  • Community Potluck Event
  • Sundays Sisters Halaqa
  • Both Chili Cook-offs

Daily prayers will still be held at the masjid. We strongly advise those who are sick or are experiencing flu-like symptoms to stay home along with the elderly, young children, and those who may be immunocompromised. Dar Al-Taqwa is taking very precautious measures to ensure our community stays safe and is following all guidelines set by the county and state.

Dar Al-Taqwa is staying up-to-date on all facts related to this matter and will continue to keep the community updated as we get more information. In the meantime, please continue praying for our community and our society's well-being.

For questions specific to the COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) contact the Howard County Health Department's Coronavirus Information Line at 410-313-6284 or visit their website here.

May Allah ﷻ protect us, forgive our shortcomings, grant us comprehensive well-being, cure those of us who are ill, and bring a quick resolution to this pandemic. Ameen.

JazakAllah Khayrun,

Board of Directors
